What happens in The Gilded Age Season 4?
The biggest question for fans is whether George and Bertha Russell are actually done for good.
George’s near–death experience made him rethink his life, and it seemed like he was going to try to make peace with Bertha over Gladys’s arranged marriage. But in the finale, George suddenly left Bertha, shocking viewers.
They’re not officially divorced yet, but it’s looking more likely now.
The real–life couple, William and Alva Vanderbilt, also divorced after marrying their daughter to a British duke. That’s a big deal, and it would be a shame if such a strong on-screen couple ended up breaking up, but the drama would be amazing. Bertha is also working to help women who are divorced.
We’re still waiting to find out if Peggy said yes to William’s romantic proposal.
She was crying when he got down on one knee, so it’s likely she said yes, but we didn’t get to see her answer, so their engagement is still unconfirmed. Larry and Marian are back together, but not re–engaged. Gladys and Hector are expecting their first baby, so we hope it goes smoothly. Hopefully, it doesn’t end like Lady Sybil’s first child in Downton Abbey. Could a crossover between The Gilded Age and Downton Abbey happen? We’ve wondered about that. The good news is that Consuelo Vanderbilt lived to be 88, so if Gladys is being modeled after her, that’s a good sign.
